“I avoid family photographs as I always feel really awkward”

Sound familiar? The most common fear about being photographed, hands down, is that of feeling or looking awkward. But MOST of us aren’t naturals in front of the camera, so what’s the solution? What will have you deciding that this is the year that you’ll book in for a family photoshoot or jump in front of the camera at your newborn photography session?

Pretty much all of my clients started the process because they had a need rather than a desire, be that capturing an important family milestone (a newborn portrait session is usually the most pressing family ‘need’) or needing to help their business stand out from the crowd. They all share an important fact – they ALL ended up surprised at how relaxing and FUN the process was. I know, right? Who knew it could actually be fun?!

Want to know how I do this?

So, am I some kind of magician? Nope, but I am human and I get it. I’m not 21 any more. I have saggy bits, bumpy bits and my fair share of wrinkles. I feel a certain way inside and then see a candid photograph of myself and have been known to think “yikes – is that me?!” This means I know how you’re feeling and what your fears are when someone is pointing a camera at you.

Yes, but really how do you create that feeling of confidence?

Being photographed by me IS different. I have a pretty unusual skillset for a photographer and it’s perfect for the nervous and camera shy. Modern cameras are AMAZING but they have zero intelligence, they can only ‘see’ what we tell them to ‘see’ and interpret the data the way we tell them to interpret it. I know how to manipulate the data that the camera receives. From the lighting, camera angle and which lens to use down to what you wear and your body language. We work as a team to create images that you love. You really can have images of yourself that reflect the way you feel and not what you worry about when you look in the mirror!

Body language? Posing? But that’s part of my fear – how can it be the solution?

Don’t panic, this is not stiff and awkward mannequin stuff we’re talking here. Have you heard of NLP? Know a bit about it? Our bodies speak for us even when we’d rather they didn’t. A gentle tweak here and there will result in an image that goes from awkward and disengaged to relaxed and full of zest. Your brain is very happy to catch up on this journey and before you know it you’re having a great time.

You won’t feel stiff, you’ll probably be laughing too much! We work together to capture the mood and emotion of the session, whether you are celebrating your pregnancy with a maternity photoshoot, welcoming a new addition with a newborn photography session (which includes you!!) a different family milestone or drive for growth in your business.

You don’t need to take my word for it, you can read my testimonials  to investigate for yourself. Honestly, I’ve got you on this.

Give me a call if you know you need to start existing in photographs with your family and could do with some help or hand holding. We can talk styling to flatter and give you confidence, I can arrange hair and makeup so you feel awesome and we just get going. What have you got to lose?
